We all have parts of our experience that can feel confusing, distressing, or blocked off completely. I help adults navigate common struggles like anxiety, feelings of disconnection, and wanting to better understand identities and relationships. The way I work is grounded in relational psychoanalytic principles. In the room you are truly invited to say anything that comes to mind. In the beginning of treatment we will work to build a relationship with the intention to create a space safe enough to invite parts of you that haven't yet found a voice or a chance to speak.
I have training and experience facilitating the use of both visual art and dreams in psychotherapy. This is not a requirement but an option that helps some people open up areas of experience that are difficult to talk about.
In addition to psychotherapy I enjoy providing consultation to psychotherapists interested in using psychoanalytic ideas. I completed psychoanalytic training at the William Alanson White Institute and currently teach in the Online Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program. I have experience supervising therapists, substance misuse counselors, art therapists, and art therapy students.
My practice is grounded in anti-oppressive, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed principles with attention to power dynamics inherent in the therapist - patient dyad. To learn more about Amara, take a look at her website, or reach out to her below to schedule a consultation.
